For the benefit of our customers in Barnsley and the surrounding areas, we have outlined below what they can expect from each of our flat roofing options.
Firestone RubberCover EPDM
This flat roofing material was designed to meet the specific demands of small-scale residential flat roofs. Through the use of an EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) rubber membrane, a range of supplementary features and the expertise of a trained fitter, Firestone RubberCover creates an impressively durable, watertight roofing solution.
These flat roofs offer homeowners multiple benefits, including:
• Outstanding Robustness
• Seamless 1-Sheet Installation
• Incredibly Low Life-Cycle Cost
• Simple Flame-Free Installation
• Notable Flexibility & Elongation
• UV & Ozone Resistance
• Environmentally Friendly
• Recovery of Rainwater
With no specific maintenance required, Firestone RubberCover EPDM offers our customers in Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield and beyond peace of mind for many years to come. In fact, recent studies have shown that these flat roofs have a life expectancy of approximately 50 years.
Should any flat roof repairs be required, we apply Firestone RubberCover QuickSeam SA Flashing to the required areas.
GRP Fibreglass Roofs
Consisting of polyester resin reinforced with chopped stand mat fibres, the technology behind GRP fibreglass roofs has drastically improved over the years. Despite being more durable, lightweight and low-maintenance than ever, the principle aim of these flat roofs remains the same: a waterproof roofing solution that can be moulded into any shape.
As a bespoke product, GRP flat roofs cover the entire roofing area, including the edging. This perfect fit creates one single, continuous membrane bonded to the roof deck without any joins or seams.
This skin-like installation eliminates the likelihood of water ingress which, in turn, greatly reduces the chances of flat roof repairs or structural issues due to moisture damage.
Further benefits of GRP fibreglass roofs include:
• Safe Cold-Application Installation
• Easy Incorporation of Insulation
• Impressive Energy-Efficiency
• An Extensive Range of Colours
• Non-Slip Walkways Added if Needed
• Maintenance-Free Flat Roofs
Liquid Rubber Roofs
Liquid roofing solutions involve the application of a fully-bonded, monolithic, liquid-based waterproof coating to a roof. Whether sprayed, rolled or brushed on to the surface, our time-served personnel ensure a smooth and even coating that cures into a rubber-like elastomeric membrane with full waterproofing qualities. In addition, this membrane has the ability to stretch and retract without any damage.
We apply liquid rubber roofs to the majority of traditional roofing surfaces such as concrete, felt, bitumen and asphalt. In fact, this versatility makes it a popular option for flat roof repairs too.
Benefits of these flat roofs include cost-effectiveness, safe installation and encapsulation of the surface at hand.
Unlike our other flat roofing solutions, we apply felt roofs through a hot-application process. The resultant surface consists of material layers, usually polyester or fibreglass, coated or saturated with a protective waterproofing agent, most commonly bitumen.
To create the first layer, we lay a polyester or fibreglass sheet directly onto the roofing surface before nailing it into place. We then steadily unroll a bitumen layer, applying heat in the form of a torch. This melts the bitumen, binding it to the material layer underneath. We repeat this process two more times, creating the desired three layers of felt roofing.
Felt roofing remains a popular option for flat roofs in Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield and across the UK due to its budget-friendly cost and durability.
As roofing specialists, we install all of our flat roofs to the very highest of standards, including a barely perceptible fall to optimise drainage and prevent pooling water.
